The digital dive card

The plastic card is at home, the medical certificate is in a folder, the insurance confirmation is somewhere in your inbox - and at the dive centre somebody asks for all three. A digital dive card is the attempt to sort that out once and for all.

What the agencies already offer

The big training agencies have digitised their cards: PADI has the eCard in the PADI app, SSI and CMAS have their own, and national federations run their own apps. If you stay with one organisation for life, that is often enough.

Most divers do not. An Open Water from one agency, a nitrox speciality from another, a dry suit course with a club, plus a medical certificate from your GP and insurance that has nothing to do with any of them: five proofs, five apps, five passwords. Nobody at a dive centre asks which agency you belong to - they ask what you can do and whether you are cleared to dive.

The difference

An eCard is a digital card. A digital dive card is the whole folder: certifications from any agency, medical, insurance, emergency contact, logbook - and the declarations you have already signed at other centres.

What belongs in it

How it helps when you check in

At a centre using Diver ID you scan a QR code or open a link and the check-in is done in seconds, because everything is already on file. Whatever has expired or may have changed gets asked; the rest does not.

At a centre that does not use Diver ID it still works: you generate a time-limited PDF with your key details and show or send it. You will still fill in their sheet, but you will not be hunting for anything.

Offline, and without an app store

Two practical points where digital cards usually fall down. Diver ID runs in the browser, so there is nothing to download; add it to your home screen with one tap if you like. And because dive sites rarely have good signal, viewing your stored details works even when nothing else does.

Who gets to see what

Your profile belongs to you. A centre receives the documents it needs for your check-in, and only once you check in there - not before and not more. The real reason this is worth doing: on paper you have no copy and no control over where the sheet ends up.

Frequently asked questions

Does a digital dive card replace my certification card?

No, and it is not meant to. It is the one place that holds everything a centre asks for - your card stays your card, including as a photo or PDF in your profile.

Does it work with certifications from all agencies?

Yes. Certifications from any training agency can be stored, alongside medical certificates, insurance proof and your logbook. That is exactly the difference from a single agency’s app.

What does it cost me as a diver?

Nothing. Diver ID is free for divers, permanently. Only the dive centre pays, and only per actual guest check-in.

Do I have to install an app?

No, it runs in the browser. One tap adds it to your home screen like an app; an app store download is never required.
